The Inner Compass - DNA or Intuition?

ON DNA, (RE)LOCATION AND PEOPLE - I come from two strong and working Italian Nonnas on both my paternal and maternal side. Semprini and Merli were the last names. They both originate from the Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany regions, Northern Italy. Worked in fashion. Art, gastronomy, faster cities than one would imagine for the Mediterranean, Milano, but coastal towns, Rimini.

My relatives say the force character and physical appearance is uncanny and gives them chills. Like I am unknowingly following their path and footsteps, and how at loss for words they would be. Do they mean by that I am incredibly willful, stubborn, or just very “demanding”, or all of the above?

As we grow up, I feel like a lot of get curious about our story. There is nothing spiritual about our DNA, it’s scientific, just like the Earth’s matter, fungi, that processes and stores information over millennia. This information is what we call our intuition. The places and people, we are called to. The way we twirl our hair like our great-grandmother, that we’ve never even known, would.

I know couples that are related (way back and not in a weird way) or that come from the same region, in the same country, but were both raised in Canada and somehow found each other through Tinder. Some friends of mine cry of joy when they talk about stepping foot back to their Motherland. How we figured out, only later in life, that both my parent’s mothers come from the same region.

Epigenetics carries the imprint of stress, labor, resilience. How one stands, gestures, argues, loves, persists. Our ways of moving through the world. When “this place and these people just feel right”. Where your body just knows how to exist, and finally relaxes. Time folds in on itself, only for just a second. I love discovering where and who I am called to. And asking people the same, and seeing them figure their place in this World. There can be multiple people and places, and some yet to discover…
