Kili Entry 5 - The Metrics

THE METRICS:

Day 1: Departure from the Marangu Gate in the rainforest at 1,860 meters for an 8 km hike to Camp 1, Mandara Huts, at 2,750 meters in 2h43 minutes. Only symptom-free day.

Day 2: Departure from Camp 1 to Camp 2, Horombo Huts, into the moorland at 3,750 meters, an 10 km hike in 3h40 minutes. First headache during the night and upon waking.

Day 3: Acclimatization day, 4km hike to 4,050 meters at Zebra Rock in an hour and fifteen minutes. Lightheaded and weak.

Day 4: Acclimatization day, hike to 4,200 meters for 7.5 km in 2h30 minutes. No symptoms. Finally acclimatized for this altitude.

Day 5: Departure from Camp 2 to Camp 3, Kibo Huts, at 4,750 meters, a 9.5 km hike into the arid desert in 3h36 minutes. Nausea and panic along the way and a little crazy upon arrival. 2-hour nap. Dinner. 1-hour nap. Tea and biscuits, and departure for the final ascent at 11:30 pm.

Day 6: It will take 8 hours to reach the summit at 5,895 meters at 7:30 am and to descend to Camp 3 for a nap. Descent to Camp 2. A total of 22 km. The further down we descend, the more the symptoms disappear. Migraine all night and upon waking.

Day 7: Descent from Camp 2 to the initial Gate, for 20 km in 4h40 minutes, fatigue.

Total: 80 km. Ascent and descent of 4,035 meters each time.
